What to do when the site has an internet outage and who to contact

Section titled “What to do when the site has an internet outage and who to contact”

This will be the process to follow only IF the client has called in or emailed us about the internet down at the site.

Once we can confirm that the site is down per client, we begin our normal steps of discovery and/or troubleshooting.

1.      Use a tool to traceroute/ping the WAN to see where the failure is

a.      If the site has a backup and it is hard down, check power outage map and email users to confirm power

b.      If site has power and is hard down, work with user to check on power to the equipment and reboot devices

2.      Sites power is up but ISP is not? Contact Peter Barry at Advatel

3.      If ISP & Power are both up and working- continue to troubleshoot
