CentrexIT Generic Procedure for Setting up New PCs/Laptops

NOTE: These instructions can be overridden by specific requests from tickets. Always use instructions from the ticket over these instructions when provided.

1. Unbox the laptop and plug into the Ethernet cable. Next, you are going to PXE boot the device (This step is for imaging devices with SCCM. If the device must be done manually, or there is no image for that client yet, go to Step 8).

2. During boot-up, hold the F12 button to go to boot options (this sometimes is different for HP or Dell machines).

3. Select to boot from LAN (IPv4).

4. Click Next and wait for the WIM file to load you into SCCM.

5. Choose the appropriate client image from the list.

6. Click Next.

7. Click Next. Wait for the image to finish. Skip to Step 12.

8. Boot the machine up. Run through Windows setup and don’t select the option to use an online/Microsoft account. Create a new local Windows profile following the prompts on-screen.

9. Username should be localuser.

10. Set Password to (found in PWstate).

11. If it asks for a security question, set the security question answers to the company acronym. Accept all other defaults.

12. Verify User Account Control is turned off.

13. Click the Start button.

14. Search UAC (to change the User Account Control Settings).

15. Drag the slider all the way to the bottom to “Never notify”.

16. Click “OK”.

17. Type “Power and sleep settings” in the Start menu and open the settings page.

18. Set all power settings for when the device is plugged in to “Never”.

19. Uninstall all third-party programs EXCEPT Google Chrome and Adobe programs.

20. Type Run.

21. Type appwiz.cpl.

22. Right-click the programs you want to remove and click “Uninstall.”

23. Run Windows Update.

24. Click the Start button.

25. Type in “Check for updates”.

26. Run through all Windows Updates.

27. If a Lenovo machine, also run Lenovo System Update.

28. Install the nCentral Client (from ncentral.centrexit.com).

29. Select the proper client from the drop-down in the top-left corner.

30. Select “Download Agent/Probe”.

31. From the “Customer/Site” dropdown, change it to the proper site the machine is being deployed to.

32. Under “Customer/Site Specific Agent/Probe” tab, click “Windows Agent”.

33. This will download the client. Click to install and accept all defaults.

34. Install Microsoft Office 365.

35. If applicable, install the VPN application and join the device to the domain.

36. If the computer is for a specific user and VPN/domain setup is possible, log in as the user in order to perform setup.

37. If it is a new user, look in the New User ticket for credentials.

38. If it is an existing user, reach out to them and our client POC for credentials.

39. Log in as the user once credentials are acquired.

40. Launch Outlook and follow the prompts to set up their mailbox.

41. Let Outlook run for a while in order to download all applicable files.

42. Set up any additional user-specific programs that were provided via a spec form/a request in the ticket (CloudSync, Skype for Business, Zoom, etc.).
