Outline the common process and questions that need to be asked before/during a site survey for a video surveillance project

  • Floor plan for the facility
  1. What is the client trying to capture?
  2. Audio
  3. Video
  4. Both
  5. How long does the video need to be retained?
  6. What are the key angles that need to be captured?
  7. Entry/Exit points
  8. High value areas such as locations where cash is exchanged or electronic equipment is stored
  9. License plate recognition
  10. Serial numbers on cash
  11. Does the system need to be able to alert someone of motion?
  12. Is there a system that is being replaced?
  13. If so, can the cabling be re-used?
  14. Is there a secure room or cabinet that the recording device can be stored in?
  15. If power goes out to the building, do you need the ability to continue recording? If yes, for how long?
  16. Do you need to be able to see the video feed from outside the facility via:
  17. Computer
  18. Mobile App
  19. Will the surveillance system need to integrate into an application or building system?
  20. Determine if you are doing a system that will need to be powered via Power Over Ethernet, if their is sufficient port capacity and power on the switch(es)
  21. While onsite take captures of proposed location for cameras, cabinets to store equipment
